Going to your first dance class can feel intimidating! Our goal is to make you feel welcome, comfortable, and confident from the moment you step in the door. Below you can find answers to the most commonly asked questions from new students.

How do I know which class level to join?

No experience? No problem! We always welcome first time dancers at Rhythm n’ Flo and have classes catered to beginner level dancers.

If you have prior dance experience, one of our instructors will ask you a few questions and do a quick evaluation to place you in the appropriate class level once you arrive at the studio.

What should I expect on my first day?

As soon as you walk in, you will be warmly greeted at the front by one of our staff members, who will check you in for your class.

Once it’s class time, we will begin by circling up and asking everyone to introduce themselves to the class.  We’ll also ask a fun question to help break the ice!

We start with a brief warm-up to loosen our muscles and get our bodies and minds in dance mode.  Next, we’ll learn the steps and techniques for that day.  Larger classes will be split so that everyone can learn at their appropriate level.

For split-level classes, you’ll have the opportunity to show off what you’ve learned with your classmates.  Get ready to be cheered on and encouraged as you take pride in having learned something new!

Tuesdays and Wednesdays conclude with a short social dance party, where you can practice your new skills in a low-stakes environment and connect more with your fellow classmates and instructors.

Remember, learning a new skill takes patience and a willingness to make mistakes, but we’ll be with you every step of the way!  And you’re never alone - our wonderful community of students is learning right alongside you.

Do I need to register online, or can I just show up?

For group classes, you can either register online ahead of time, or simply show up.

For private lessons, we ask that you schedule your lesson ahead of time with one of our instructors. Feel free to book a private lesson online or contact us for more information.

For progressive class series, we require you to register online or in person prior to the start date of the series. Once the series has started, it is closed and you can no longer register.

Do I need to bring a partner?

No partner necessary!  We rotate partners so that everyone gets a chance to dance with everybody!

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. For shoes, sneakers and other close-toed, snug-fitting shoes generally work well. Try to avoid sandals or shoes that slide on, because they may move around while you’re dancing.

If you’re looking to buy dance shoes, our instructors are always happy to recommend stores and brands!
